About Rob

Rob Dopp

My path toward gardening began when I worked on a golf course maintenance crew summers during high school and while pursuing a journalism degree at Valparaiso University.  Upon graduation I found I enjoyed working outdoors so I went to Michigan State University to get my Turfgrass Management degree and spent seven years working on golf courses in Michigan. After some ordinary midlife tumult I wound up in SF and found a job as a gardener.
I have found gardening as an occupation to be an always intriguing enterprise in that every garden must strike a harmony amongst a host of factors unique to the space, including not only the seasonal subtleties of sun and soil but also the functional needs of the client, their budget, tastes and ideals as well as considerations like neighbors (vegetative and animal as well as human), kids, pets, street noise and any number of site-specific idiosyncrasies.  If we do well in bringing all these factors together we wind up with something wonderful and balanced, full of pleasant surprises. Imagine Frankenstein's monster if he took your kids to school and helped you with your yoga poses. That's what we're after.
